EXCELLENCE FROM CAL'S STUDENT-ATHLETES…
Since its first national championship in 1920 (football), Cal has had at least one national champion (either team or individual) in 84 of the past 99 years, and including every year since the 1973-74 season.
Cal athletes have also performed exceptionally well at the Olympics. Emblematically, forty-one (41) athletes from Cal's non-revenue teams travelled to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, many of whom are now household names in connection with their medal winning performances in the following sports: Swimming, Water Polo, Soccer, Track & Field, Gymnastics, Rugby, Rowing, Golf, Volleyball and Table Tennis.
Total Olympic Medals: (117) Gold, (51) Silver, (39) Bronze.
Total National champions: (182) individual, (56) rowing, (46) swimming relay, (14) tennis doubles, and (3) track relay.
