A: If you’re attempting to login to the updated Big C Society® website for the first time, the first step to accessing the member area (which includes your profile page) is activating your account. In order to activate your account (even if you’ve paid dues by mail previously), you’ll need to (a) set-up your login credentials. Please follow these steps:

If you don’t have access to the email address that is listed in your profile, or if you’re newly registering, please click the button that reads: Need an account? Sign-up
Next, follow prompts to set-up login credentials (your email and a password).
A confirmation email (with an embedded validation hyperlink) will arrive in your inbox within three (3) minutes. In order to validate that your email is active, click on the embedded hyperlink.
Next, agree to the terms of membership (if meet the eligibility requirements).
Login using your validated credentials.
Finally, navigate to your Profile within the member area, and make any required updates to your email address, your billing and mailing addresses, mobile phone number, notification preferences, and a collection of other settings that are unique to each Big C Society® member.

Q: What does the Big C Society® Do?
A: The Big C Society® is the Letterman’s Society of Cal Athletics, whose members include all of the student-athletes who earned a varsity letter representing the University of California at Berkeley in intercollegiate competition. Specifically, The Big C Society® hosts, sponsors, provides, and/or pays for – either partially or in full – all of the following:
-First Year Awards for varsity letter winners, including a framed plaque with a certificate of athletic letter and a team photo, along with a medallion.
-Supplemental Financial Support for Non-revenue Teams, to help acquire equipment, training tools and other items not covered by the Athletic Department’s budget, along with supplemental financial support for the recoveries Cal student athletes who are seriously injured or critically ill.
-The Hall of Fame Induction Banquet honoring Cal athletes whose extraordinarily achievements elevated their teams and the University of California.
-The Senior Recognition Banquet honoring all athletes in their senior year at Cal, whether or not they earned an athletic letter in their respective sports.
-The Student-Athlete Academic Honors Luncheon for all Academic All-Americans, all Pac-10 academic honorees, and those Cal athletes and teams who have demonstrated superior academic achievement.

Q: Is the BIG C SOCIETY® PART OF THE CaL ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT?
A: The Big C Society® works closely with the Athletic Department of the University of California at Berkeley, but it is a separate 501(c)3 non-profit entity. However, its Board of Directors does include representatives from the Athletic Department. In kind, it's Bylaws explicitly support the interests of the University, its varsity sports teams and its student-athletes.
Q: aM I eligible to join the Big C Society®?
A: Membership is limited to student-athletes who earned a varsity letter in intercollegiate competition for the University of California at Berkeley. Information on the requirements to earn a varsity letter, by sport, can found here.
Q: Are my dues, donations, events tickets or merchandise purchases tax deductible?
A: Yes and No. Your dues and donations are tax deductible and you will receive a letter from The Big C Society® memorializing your charitable giving. Events tickets and merchandise purchased from The Big C Society® are not tax deductible. Federal tax rules prohibit deductions for gifts that actually benefit the donor or certain related parties.
Q: How is the Big C Society® different from OTHER GROUPS THAT RAISE MONEY FOR CAL ATHLETICS OR ITS TEAMs?
A: The University of California at Berkeley and each of its varsity sports engages in its own fundraising outreach to both organizations and alumni that have an interest in providing financial support to Cal. However, annual budget shortfalls for varsity sports teams persist nonetheless. The teams most affected by budget shortfalls are Cal's celebrated non-revenue sports that have produced scores of Olympians, All-Americans and National Champions, along with many of the most productive citizens of our nation. These remarkable student-athletes and teams are the specific focus of the fundraising and giving by The Big C Society®. It raises money exclusively from past varsity athletes at Cal in order to provide supplemental funding for today's varsity athletes for equipment and events, and to spotlight and connect Cal’s letterman graduates who went pro in something other than support.
Q: How does the big C Society® determine how much SUPPLEMENTAL support THAT it provides AND WHO GETs it?
A: Each year The Big C Society® Board of Directors authorizes a budget for giving that is limited by the dues and donations that it has received. In kind, and at its sole discretion, the Board of Directors prioritizes the requests that it receives for supplemental funding, and metes out economic support in consideration of its established budget, acuteness of need and other factors.
